What can Internet Service Providers do for you?

The internet has become the most popular digital service since consumers became aware of how much faster and more convenient it makes their lives. Gone are the days when people had to make do with week-old news - now they can learn about it minutes after it happens.

Shopping has also been taken to a whole new level with the internet. Online shopping does away with the inconvenience of traveling to a brick and mortar store or mall to window-shop or ‘shop till you drop’. Shopping can done right in the comfort of your home, office or wherever you happen to be.

Connecting to the internet is done by way of an internet service providers (ISP). They are often referred to as broadband providers to differentiate their services from older dial-up services.

Gaining access to the web is not free. A monthly fee required by your chosen internet service provider gains you entry to the fascinating and entertaining world of the internet. The type of internet access you qualify for (DSL, cable, satellite, or fiber) depends on your location and budget.

How do ISPs grant you entry to the web? It all starts with the ISP assigning you the right IP address connected to DNS servers. This IP address uses your router to send it to the ISP who will, in turn, send it to the DNS servers. After that, it’s the DNS server’s turn to send back that same IP address to your chosen ISP. The ISP quickly forwards the received data back to your router and to the device you’re currently using to connect you to the web.

This may sound like a complicated transaction but it isn’t. Rather, all of these to-and-fro transactions take a matter of mere seconds to accomplish. This is how remarkable the technology is.

This should tell you that a slow and sluggish service can’t be blamed on you, the user. Lag and buffer is the fault of your ISP. Contact us today to find out more about how to diagnose problems with your own internet connection.
