Five Best Living Female Comedians

Without a doubt, women have made a great name for themselves in all the fields of the world today. Be it sports, arts, engineering, technology or comedy, women have made their mark in all. Our today’s article is a tribute to such living legends that have made comedy an even more pleasurable experience for all of us.
Below is a list of the six best living female stand-up comedians. These have worked really hard and are a bunch of very talented souls.
1. Sarah Silverman
Born on December 1, 1970, Sarah started performing comedy when she was just 12 years old. At the age of 17, she got her first gig. Later she started working as a writer for Saturday Night Live and landed a role in Larry Sanders Show, which provided her with more opportunities. She also made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. She also has an autobiography called ‘The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee’ to her credit. Sarah has her own television show by the name of ‘The Sarah Silverman Program’, for which she got nominated for an Emmy for the Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
2. Tina Fey
Tina Fey was born on May 18, 1970 and she too started her career as a writer from the show Saturday Night Live. Later on the same show, Tina created a record by being the first female head writer. She also worked with the renowned stand-up comedian, Jimmy Fallon. She starred in two films, ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Baby Mama’, and also wrote the script for the former one. She won an Emmy due to her impersonation of Sarah Palin during the elections. Tina has won many accolades for herself i.e. one Emmy, three Golden Globes, four Screen Actors Guilds, and four Writers Guild of America awards.
3. Amy Poehler
Amy has been closely associated to Tina Fey on her career. Born on September 16, 1971, Amy joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001, and soon became a regular on the show. Later during 2003-2004, she started anchoring SNL along with Tina Fey. She acted in ‘Arrested Development’ and also starred in her TV show ‘Parks and Recreation’. At ‘The Women’s Image Network (WIN) Awards’ in 2012, Amy was nominated in the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for ‘Parks and Recreation’.

4. Whoopi Goldberg
Born on November 13, 1955, Caryn Elaine Johnson or better known as Whoopi, first performed as a stand-up comedians at the San Diego Repertory Company, under the name ‘Whoopi Cushion’. She won a Grammy Award for the Best Comedy Performance Single or Album Spoken or Musical for ‘Original Broadway Show Recording’ in 1985. She worked in various films including Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Color Purple’, ‘Telephone’, ‘Made in America’, ‘Soapdish’ etc. and she even won an Oscar for her role in ‘Ghost’.
5. Ellen DeGeneres
Born on January 26, 1958, Ellen DeGeneres is one of my very favorite stand-up comedians. She started her career as a comedian working in small clubs and coffee shops. Her comedic style is very different and is neither vulgar nor mean. After winning a competition, Ellen got her big break and started performing for better gigs. She first appeared in the ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’. With a few struggles and ups and downs, Ellen finally started her own show in 2003 with the name “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”. This show won 15 Emmy Awards, making it the first talk show in television history to have won an Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Talk Show’. She has won many other awards including ‘The Best Female Club Stand-up’, ‘Entertainer of the Year’ etc. She has two books to her credit, namely ‘My Point… And I Do Have One’ and ‘The Funny Thing Is…’.
